Brief

North Star Timber Frames came to us keen to create a brand identity that was both modern and professional whilst still reflecting their hand crafted ethics. Their strategy involved establishing themselves in the local market for their core services and also to provide a framework for them to launch a range of ‘off the shelf’ small buildings into the wider market.

Description

Given that we have a passion for historic and vernacular architecture this was a particularly interesting job to work on. We all felt that the logo had to have the ability of being carved in to any structure acting like a traditional joiner’s mark.

Historic references to building methods and daisy chains were employed to create an 8 pointed star, which could easily be transposed using joiners callipers and a compass. This was perfect for the timber but it then had to be transposed onto print. To achieve the hand made feel we produced a lino cut with a simple black and white balance.
