Porter Dodson have a long history of providing straightforward, no-nonsense solicitors and legal advice in the South West; parts of the firm can trace their roots as far back as the 19th Century. As a Top 200 UK law firm (according to The Lawyer magazine), they need to make sure that their branding represents the company’s main goal – approaching challenging legal issues in a way that is approachable and authoritative. After bringing a design agency on board a few years ago to update the brand identity, Porter Dodson felt that the brand lacked the empathy and connection to their clients and location. They wanted to find the balance between corporate and friendly – and that’s where we stepped in.
As a local agency with existing connections to the firm, Teapot Creative were asked to expand Porter Dodson’s existing brand to better reflect the company’s ethos. Rather than create a whole new identity, the task was to develop the current iteration and find a way of bringing it in line with the firm’s mantra of “All about you”.
The solution was to start a conversation with existing and future clients, to bridge the daunting gap between a large law firm and an individual who needs help, and to raise the level of design used across all assets. By developing the ‘coffee bean’ icon used in the company’s logo into speech bubbles, Teapot Creative were able to allow create more approachable, accessible messaging.
