John Franklin Kitchens came to us for a Re-brand as their existing logo and brand identity needed a little bit of love. We took their existing brand colours, as we felt it was a good starting point and wanted to make sure there was a link between the new and the old designs. The brown they originally had ended up being transformed to a mid, warm grey and the blue has become a little lighter but it still gives the same trusted feel. Teapot Creative added a burgundy as an accent colour which packs a punch when used sparingly. With a lot of typographical changes and tweaking we came up with a fresh new look which was clean and simple and far more minimal than their previous design. The company has been around for 40 years and although the product remains the same (with some additions along the way), they are very different to when they started and the new brand identity needed to reflect the company in its new, modern state.
Once the brand was agreed, we then looked at all their existing marketing assets including stationery, signage, van decals and website to see were the new design would have the most impact. Their website was a good place to start as we could make a huge difference by showcasing their products beautifully. Large photos on the home page and an easy to find gallery of their fabulous kitchen and bathroom designs, gives the user a really good idea of the results they can also achieve with a kitchen makeover or bathroom refit.
We loved working on this project and are still very much enjoying the relationship we have with this delightful family run business. Below, Sue Franklin offers some insight into how it all started and what they are up to now….
John Franklin Kitchens all began in a barn, at the bottom of the garden when our family moved to Somerset from Hertfordshire in 1979. The business rapidly grew to an extent where we needed to move to larger premises in Glastonbury, which is still the home of our showroom and factory today. It’s been a long-standing family business as three generations, John and Chris Franklin, their children Steve & Sue and now Sue’s son Matt, have all been involved with the company. We’ve even won an award for Family Business of the Year 2019 at the Mendip Business Awards this year.
It all started with kitchens, hence the name, but we’ve branched out over the years to supply high-quality bathrooms, bedrooms and additional services. At John Franklin Kitchens, we provide a fully project managed service from initial design consultation through to installation. We offer a personal, friendly service to all our clients and many new and old customers have come through our door. We love it when our original customers from the earlier years return to us for a new updated kitchen or bathroom as well as welcoming new faces to our new brand.
Unlike other suppliers in the area, we offer a range of bespoke kitchens and bathrooms in a variety of designs such as natural wood and hand-painted styles. No ‘off-the-shelf’ approach, every kitchen or bathroom is unique to our customer to perfectly match their family and lifestyle. Afterall, the kitchen is the most used room in any house, so it needs to be perfect. Every kitchen has been hand-crafted by our team in our Glastonbury factory. The new branding captures our bespoke, sophisticated approach to business and enables us to uphold our strong customer service through an easy to use website design. It enables us to regularly update our website content to help and inform our customers. Our favourite part of the new website must be our work portfolio page where all our beautiful kitchens and bathrooms are displayed.
Coming up to John Franklin Kitchens’ 40th year in business, Managing Director, Sue, decided it was time to update the brand and the existing website. We needed a completely new website, new logo and new signage which was mobile friendly and up-to-date with the industry. The theme of our new branding, refresh, refined, timeless, now runs throughout our entire business; from business cards and van livery to website and social media platforms. All implemented successfully with the help of Teapot Creative. The update across the business has shown a great impact already with an increase in website hits, social media interest and business leads.
The changes have been well received by our staff, customers and of course, John and Chris who started the company! With our business roadmap heading for continued business growth, our rebrand and website design completed by Teapot Creative came at a great time for the business.
