Somerset is a large and varied county but possibly most famous for its outdoor lifestyle and amazing areas of outstanding natural beauty; Blackdown Hills, Mendips and Quantocks. Amongst these hills are wonderful business, busy producing fabulous products and services. Some of these business are well established and have been handed down through generations and some are start-ups fighting for their spot in the market.
Somerset people love to buy form Somerset businesses too. We are a loyal bunch and like to celebrate the diversity and incredible productivity of our wonderful county. Teapot Creative have been desinging for nearly 10 years down on the Somerset levels and in that time we have met so many other innovative business owners.
We are very interested to see how Somerset is represented at Badminton Horse trials this year. Each year we proudly visit our clients at their stands at Badminton (not entirely a business day out I have to add – we are a horsey family). One of our favourite clients is HiHo Silver. We are lucky enough to have designed and built their Presatshop website last year – it is sumptuous and scrumptious – a little like their eye catching stand at Badminton each year. Lots of pretty things for all sizes of pocket! It is Hiho’s 25th Anniversary this year and as the official jewellers for Badminton they have just released their second Official Badminton Collection. They are also judging and sponsoring best dressed at the first trot up.
Blackdown Shepherd Huts are a relative newcomer to Badminton. This will be their third year – they have the same fabulous spot under the tree, near the scoreboard each year and put on a truly unique show of their beautiful huts. Well worth a visit. They are also one of our favourite clients and we are lucky enough to look after all their brand assets: brochures, adverts, websites etc… and love popping over to see them in their beautiful offices just outside Ilminster.
I found out yesterday that Thatcher’s Cider are at Badminton this year… definitely on my list of places to visit. The Somerset cidermaker will be serving its ‘Gold’ and ‘Haze’ ciders on draught across all bars at Badminton Horse Trials. I’m partial to the recently launched sweet cider, Thatchers Rosé too. There will be a tasting truck and the Thatcher’s Tack Room at the lakeside too. They have hit the ground running on their first Badminton and another tick for Somerset Businesses!
Probably the most exciting South Somerset representative is Alexander Bragg riding Zagreb (he had his Badminton debut last year). Alex, who is based in Chilton Trinity, near Bridgewater in Somerset, is a professional farrier. He made his four-star debut at Burghley in 2016. With his wife, Alex runs ‘Team Bragg’. The couple have three daughters and are members of the Polden Hills Pony Club – rivals of our own Taunton Vale Pony Club! We will be cheering him on over the course of the competition – good luck Alex!
Griffin Nuumed numnahs were a valuable Somerset asset but they have been recently bought by a company in Walsall – our loss! I feel we can still claim it as a Somerset asset as the business was born here and the numnahs and saddlepads were manufactured in Somerset for many years. We were lucky enough to design their catalogue a couple of years ago.
Once we are there I will be looking for more Somerset businesses. If you know of any please let me know and we will drop in to say hello!
