The Teapot Creative team have decided to up their environmentally friendly game – We have pledged that we will Reduce, Reuse & Recycle!
A scientific study stated, that every year there is an additional 8 million metric tonnes of plastic that ends up in our oceans and they have now found plastic bags in the deepest depths of the Mariana Trench. Since the 1950s, the equivalent weight of one billion elephants worth of plastic has been created, with most of it now in a landfill.
We think this is unacceptable and what to do our bit to help keep our planet clean and as healthy as possible.
So here is our Environmental Pledge…
Most offices now have some sort of recycling procedure in place, but could you do more? We will be conducting a waste audit to determine what we are currently putting in our general waste bins, and what could actually be recycled/reused. To help incentify this with the team, we will be creating a competition to see who can recycle/reuse the most. We will also always recommend that our clients use recycled stock for print where possible.
We drink so much tea in the office (the clue is in the name!) but were you aware that tea bags have plastic in them. Several tea bag brands use polypropylene, a sealing plastic, to keep the bags from falling apart. The Co-op has announced that they will be changing their own brand tea bags to no longer include polypropylene (Brands that currently uses polypropylene, Tetley, PG Tips, Twinings, Clippers and Yorkshire Tea).
Most of us don’t even think about what we use, but we want to ensure we are. We will only purchase toilet paper that is made from environmentally friendly materials, and that donates a proportion of its profits to help build toilets for those in need. Even the packaging of the toilet paper is recyclable – Who Gives a Crap!
Every Friday our team are asked to go Plastic Free, in the attempt to reduce the amount of plastic we dispose of. So no more pre-packed sandwiches in plastic boxes, or supermarket salad in a plastic bowl with the addition of a plastic fork. This will also be part of our incentive scheme along with the recycling.
Strive to achieve a Carbon Neutral workplace. We will perform an energy audit to find out our current baseline, and then calculate how we can go about reducing our carbon footprint.
As a team, we will always offer to car share to those who drive a similar route to work. Not only will this help reduce emission, but will also save money on fuel!
Everyone knows to only print when it’s essential (we use recycled copy paper), but what about the use of pens and pencils. We are moving over to more eco-friendly pens (from recycled plastics), but if we can use pencils instead, we will.
We installed a new energy efficient dishwasher, which is only used on the eco setting each night. Rather than each person washing up their dishes and utensils separately, we ensure the dishwasher is fully utilised.
For every 20 reams of paper the office uses, we pledge to plant a tree to replace the paper used.
We hope that our staff will then use these best practices at home, and spread the message of our Environmental Pledge.
